OUR STORY
Several local residents of Karimunjawa took the initiative in 2021 to make a difference for the local community by offering educational programs for the population on this unique island. More than 20 local people are involved in the foundation as board, staff members and volunteers.
Situated 70 kilometers north of Java, Karimunjawa is a gem of an island archipelago, where tourism is rapidly growing, but where educational facilities and English language proficiency are scarce. Awareness of these challenges has led to the initiative of establishing a foundation to improve educational opportunities and to increase English language proficiency among the local population. Various educational projects have been initiated, including a bilingual preschool for children aged 3 to 6, English courses for children aged 7 to 12, and English courses for adults working in tourism. The Kejora Karimunjawa school (SPS Explorers) is officially recognised and legalised within the Indonesian education system.
On March 8, 2024, the Dutch Kejora Karimunjawa Foundation is established. The foundation was established by three passionate board members due to their shared love for the island of Karimunjawa. They founded the foundation to support the Indonesian Yayasan Kejora Karimunjawa.
